Running a tech lab can be frightening. What if there’s a problem you don’t know how to answer? What if the computers break? What if they all break at once?
Several years ago, in an effort to create a practical strategy for technology success, I started tracking how often I got the same tech questions from students. Soon, I extended it to parents who, in a well-intentioned effort to help with school work, often got stuck on a techie issue. Some spent hours on a problem that could have been solved in minutes–if only they knew how to do that. -
Reimagining Books: How Citia's iPad App Compares to a Paper Book
Kevin Kelly's book What Technology Wants was one of my favorite non-fiction books of 2011. In my April 2011 review, I gave it 5 out of 5 stars. It's fitting that Kelly's book is the first to be turned into an iPad app on a new iOS platform called Citia. The result isn't an ebook though, it's more like a condensed summary of the book's main ideas. So is Citia just a modern day CliffsNotes, or something more substantial?

It has been a great experience to share the learning that has happened in Parkland School Division 184 project this past year. As shared on the site, this project has been modified from the #edu180atl initiative this year that was a great way to bring students and educators together to share the learning that happens every day. Without their open sharing, we would not have been able to do this project ourselves.

The Retina MacBook Pro and the sound of repairability - The Next Web
Apple introduced a new MacBook Pro model during the keynote last week. It’s an impressive beast, but its primary draw is the insanely high-resolution Retina display.
In a manner similar to the last few portable releases from Apple, including the MacBook Air and the iPad, it was almost immediately attacked for its lack of potential upgradeability and its difficulty of third-party repair. But, perhaps because the Retina display is such a high-profile advancement, it seems to have gotten more attention than usual. -
Windows 8: You’ll Absolutely Hate It At First (But Give It A Chance Anyway) | TechCrunch
Windows 8 is, without doubt, Microsoft’s most ambitious release in recent memory. It does away with a lot of what users have come to expect from Windows over the years. The iconic Start button is gone, for example. Instead, we now get an operating system that has a bit of a split personality, with Metro replacing the Start menu and offering full-screen apps and a legacy desktop with its usual taskbar, which basically looks like Windows 7.5.

Many classrooms, conference rooms and boardrooms are equipped with computer projection systems. You can easily connect your iPad to a projector with Apple’s VGA Adapter and a common VGA cable. This adapter and cable combination allows you to show content from your iPad on the projection screen. I first wrote about this back in August of 2010.

How Google May Identify Implicitly Local Queries
When you perform some searches, Google might include Maps results within the web search results for those queries, or it might include some local results that change when you change your location in Google. Those queries are ones that don’t include geographic information within them, yet Google somehow decides that there’s some geographic relevance to the terms being searched for.

Those in favor of the idea most often cite student motivation and the ability of games to simulate real world circumstances so that learners can safely explore these environments without endangering themselves or others.
